Having fun with letters

I love writing, lettering and calligraphy, in fact I love letters, full stop!

Tonight I have done a couple of pages of lettering that show you how you can do your own.  Using a computer is obviously one way of doing it, but sometimes it is better to add your own handwritten words for a more personal touch to your cards and scrapbooking pages.

In fact this technique is so well known, you may well know it already, but just in case I have readers that don't know, I have done this for you.

I have two methods of writing to show you, one is by adding dots:

First write out your alphabet in the normal way:
..then add a 'dot' with your pen to the ends of letters, like this:
Looks much more 'interesting' - you can also vary the angle of the letter.

The second method is to add lines.  Again, write out your letters in the normal way:
and then add lines to the ends of the letters:
Again, you can vary the angles of the letters and lines.

Sorry, my post is late today, Blogger is still causing me problems when I try to add more than one photo.  I have to save the page as a draft and then edit the draft.  Hope they fix it soon.

Thanks for looking and any comments,

Do you doodle do?

As an artist come crafter I do find myself doodling at times.  I tend to like making up my own cartoon characters which is what I used to do from about the age of  5 onwards.  I've been looking at some old Beano and Whizzer & Chips annuals with my children recently and some of the images I remember so well that it took me right back to when I was their age.  Kind of spooky in a way.  I did love comics though when I was little and spent many a happy hour pouring over the characters' hilarious antics.

My sister remembers that I love to do cartoons so bought me this book for my birthday, 'The Telephone Doodle Book', and today I've been filling in some of the pages.  No telephone required.

In detail I had to:

...make faces out of photographed vegetables.
Design a cra-zy hair do:
(Some of the drawing is already completed for you, in this one I just added the hair)
(As you can see, I changed my mind on how I was going to do this, the spikes won!)

Next, I had to 'dress Mr Simpson'
Fetching pair of green shorts eh?

Here I added some stripes:
...and finally some more whacky hair:

There are loads of doodling books on the market, get yourself one and have a go!  They are a great way of freeing up your creativity!

Thanks for reading,

How do I.....?

On with the drawing theme from yesterday and here is another one of my pictures from a while ago:

This one was drawn and painted with gouache paints.

Today I did a little cartooning.  I decided to make a colouring in picture for my friend's daughter, Megan.  I had a go at colouring it in too, but I desperately need some Promarkers to do the job properly!:

These are just made-up characters.  I would love to know how people go about making and selling characters for greetings cards.  How do you put drawings on to pdfs?  Is that how people sell digital stamps?  Hopefully someone will come along and tell me all I need to know!...

See you tomorrow,
