Recent Makes Collages

Today I have been having a bit of a 'down day' regarding this blogging.  Maybe I shouldn't have committed myself to doing a craft every day, as some days it is so difficult just thinking of something to do and show you.  I made this New Year's Resolution to do this every day and so far (apart from a few days when my internet was down) I have stuck to it, but I have to admit it is a real struggle some days. I'm not even sure what I'm doing is particularly appreciated, I'm getting so few comments.  Sorry to be so down, but I do hope that you still like looking at what I do even if you don't say so.

Tonight I've just made a compilation collage of my recent makes:
I mean, principally, I'm making things that I want to make for myself and my family and letting you lovely people in on the act, but maybe by making such a range of different things I'm alienating others.  For example, the cardmakers amongst you might not appreciate the altered objects, say, or the glass painting.  Most of the craft blogs I see seem to specialise in particular areas, so maybe this is where I'm going wrong?

I'm still loving actually doing the crafting, I just don't want to start resenting it because I have to do it because I've made a commitment (this blog).

On the plus side I feel that I am glad that I have this, because it keeps me busy, helps to stop me missing my husband who many of you know is working in China at the moment.  It is therefore useful as an outlet with something to focus on.

It's OK, I'm not going to give up doing this (although it's the most commitment I have ever given to any New Year's Resolution) but maybe I would just like to know that what I am doing is OK.

See you tomorrow,

I don't know how you do it every day Nicky. I would love to craft every day but the days just seem to dissapear before you know it. I'm guilty of not commenting enough - I've got so behind both with posting and with reading (hence me being up so late trying to catch up with everyone) I think I am going to try and loosen up with my attitude towards it all. Like you say - it's supposed to be a pleasure and yet I feel so guilty when I get behind.

As for what you post - I do the same - I post what I craft which is what I make for our home or other people. It's funny you should mention this as I was thinking along similar lines this week and have decided I'm not going to keep holding back what I post for fear somepeople may not like it. It's MY blog for MY creations so that's what it's going to be. No matter what form it takes. If people don't like it they don't have to read. I personally have never felt alienated by your blog and I'm not a card maker. So there - don't you dare start thinking you shouldn't post some things - you never know what inspiration you might be depriving us of :)

Sorry - epic comment. Time for bed methinks ;)

I would totally echo what Carmen said. Your blog is for you not us. I mainly sew and make jewellery but I love your makes. I am also guilty of not commenting enough. When it gets to the point that you are crafting for the blog only and you are finding it a chore that is the time to stop. I only recently discuvered blogging and I love it, at first I was bloggine every day but then reduced it to every other day but I would have no qualms about not blogging for a week if I had nothing to show or say.
Sorry for the ramble, I just wanted to say I love your stuff I think you are really talented and please don't stop. Your encouragement on my blog has been a great help to me.
Chin up! Luv Kandi x

Thank you for your lovely comments Carmen and Kandi, it's lovely to have such supportive blogging friends.

Looking at it in the light of day today, I realise that I've been looking at this in the wrong way. As I am making the things for myself (& home/family) there should be no need to rely on the reassurance of others.

I also realise that I am guilty of doing the very thing that I was complaining about! I look at loads of people's blogs, really like what they have done but hop on to the next without commenting. There aren't enough hours in the day to comment on everything.

As I siad in the post, I enjoy the crafting so I won't give up. It's difficult doing it every day, but not impossible.

Thank you for listening.

Nicky writing on your blog should feel fun, not a chore. Dont worry about not blogging every day...& if you feel the need to then maybe, when you've got a few crafty items done, set them on auto post so you can have a few days off.

& to show you your blog is appreciated I actually popped on here to tell you theres a blogger award for you on my blog... http://kscraftycorner.blogspot.com/2010/06/lovely-carmen-over-at-whoopidoo.html

Hi I am posting with the same sentiments as Carmen in as much as I seem to run out of time to blog myself, read other blogs and leave comments! Please don't give up as you have a great blog and personally although I mainly try papercrafting I love seeing other crafts/makes etc etc and appreciate your posts. I am sorry you don't always realise that you have fans out there but you do and I am one! Also I was really touched by the message you left on my blog thank you xxx

I AM ONE OF YOUR BIGGEST FANS!

Don't be down. I HAVE to check your blog every day, I am seriously addicted .... but I too am guilty for not commenting, but of late I have been trying to do so more often. What with blogging myself, it seems I am never off the computer.

You could try what i do and schedule your posts. When I am on half term I try to get a few posts done each day, especially when I have a new box of cards to get done .... so I have some for spare, otherwise I would go round the twist trying to think of new ideas each day, especially after a knackering day at work.

I also put on my mistakes or things I am not really sure if I like or not.

My favourite posts on your blog are when you go charity shop shopping and your brilliant finds.

Thank you for your blog, your fans really do appreciate it

xxxx

Many, many, thanks blogger friends, I really appreciate your support.

I'm not sure I could schedule posts, I find it difficult thinking of one craft at a time, yet alone five.

I also tend to like my midnight crafting time, it seems to suit my bodyclock.

You've cheered me up with your comments though so thanks again, I feel much more positive about it today.

Nicky I love reading your blog and seeing your creations, but I too am guilty of not always leaving comments, I sometimes get so behind with my commenting that there are a few days worth of posts to catch up on! your blogging is appreciated even if I dont always get chance to say so :) xx

Awww bless you nicky - hope you're feeling a bit more positive today. I love reading your posts as you make such clever things that I could never attempt.

Don't worry about crafting every day - I struggle some weeks to craft just one day so I can't believe you've managed to keep it up this long. Your commitment is amazing! But give yourself a break and blog when you fancy it.

It's hard to find the time to craft, let alone write posts for your blog (and MSE plus any other forums!!) so just post when you get the urge. People follow and read your blog cos they're interested in what you're up to so don't fret about what to write. I promise to try and comment more :o) I know how I enjoy reading the comments you leave on my blog - keep up the blogging Nicky - but maybe not every day ;o) Love Lucy xox

Hi, I think the others have just about said what I was thinking. Don't beat yourself up about it it's YOUR blog. I LOVE reading about all your crafting exploits but suffer from a serious shortage of time to craft & blog hop so please don't feel down & accept my apologies for not commenting more often x

Thanks again everybody and K thanks so much for the award. That particular one is a bit whacky!

I'm fine again now and feeling a bit guilty about complaining. I've also been wondering whether feeling a bit lonely may have sparked off that outburst.

By your comments I can see you do appreciate what I do so I will carry on and despite what I said about it being difficult doing something every day, in a funny kind of way I like the pressure.

Thank you again my wonderful blogging friends for listening and being here for me.
